CRYING FACE, DON’T TELL ANYONE SMILE, THINKING SMILE, BROKEN HEART, WILTED ROSE
2021
Curatorial Text by Christopher Weickenmeier: pdf
The title of the show references one of the last emails one of my cousins sent me in the early 2000's. I looked it up recently and all of the emoticons were broken, leaving strings of poems in their wake.
CRYING FACE, DON’T TELL ANYONE SMILE, THINKING SMILE, BROKEN HEART, WILTED ROSE began with a drawing. It illustrates the division and difference between the realms of our real world, the internet and dark web. The 1980's utopian dream of the freedom of the net eludes each step deeper.
The installation at the Klosterruine in Berlin expands this illustration into a one to one experience. The internet in perpetual ruins.
